The Year's Last Corn Journal

Well, it's so damn hot, the corn's burned up. Burnt to a crisp. But not all was lost.  Gloria Jean and I reaped the benefits of an abundance of cobs.  So this year's crop was a success.  It's just too hot for it to continue.

The wife is busy puttin' all the corn to good use. Fried corn, boiled corn, grilled corn, steamed corn, sauteed corn, whole corn, creamed corn, corn on the cob, corn chowder, corn pot pie, corn-encrusted lamb chops, corn patties, corn fritters, corn stew, corn salsa, baked corn, broiled corn, stir-fried corn, cornbread, corn skewers, corn cake, corn smoothies, corn shooters, and ... that's about it. See ya next year.

The Downtown Corn Journal Year II

I'm glad to be back, and the corn's glad to be back.  First, I'd like to issue a formal apology to any of my neighbors that may have gotten sprayed by my intricate rooftop sprinkler system.  There was a temporary defect, and water was shooting up, out, and everywhere.  I'd especially like to apologize to the gentleman who was sitting directly under the broken gutter.  That was unfortunate, but you probably shouldn't put a chair there.  And you have to admit it's kinda cool that I can make it rain.

Big plans this year.  The corn's already high.  And we got flowers, herbs, tomatoes, zinnias, citronella, beans, you name it.

Tonight there's gonna be a big ol' full moon, and it's gonna sit on the horizon at about 8:30, maybe 9:00.  It's gonna look so huge, it'll be freaky.  It's the solstice moon, so the sun and moon will be like on a seesaw.  And Saturday will be the longest day of the year.  The corn's gonna love that.  Lots of sun.  Be sure to check out the big-ass moon tonight, and keep checking back for important corn updates.  Thank you.

Robert's Almanac: A Downtown Corn Journal

 Robert-Corn.jpg

When the moon lines up with Venus sometime mid-month, there's going to be hell to pay. Because Venus rules love, see, and it's going to bring love to the corn.  All the work I've put in to the peppers, tomatoes, and especially the corn will finally pay off.  All the blood, sweat, and tears, all the neighbors who said I was crazy for growing a garden on the roof, it'll be worth it.  I hope they don't think they're getting any of it.  Prime reaping this month and on into harvest time.  I've dealt with crop circles and a shit storm that nearly destroyed it all, but my corn is thriving.  Year of the Weasel be damned.  It's up to here.  I'll show you.
